Rotary Club of Camden County Hosts Update on St. Marys Submarine Museum Expansion

The Rotary Club of Camden County recently welcomed Keith Post, Director of the St. Marys Submarine Museum, to share an update on the museum’s exciting relocation and expansion as it approaches its 30th anniversary.

After three decades in its current location, the museum has outgrown its space and will relocate to a new facility adjacent to the new St. Marys City Hall through a continued partnership with the City of St. Marys. The move will allow the museum to significantly expand its public footprint, better display its growing collection, and create flexible space for meetings, ceremonies, and community events.

The new location will be a welcome addition to Camden County, making the museum easier to visit and better positioned to serve both residents and service members. With more room to grow, the museum will be able to host gatherings, ceremonies, and community events while continuing to tell the story of the submarine force. Plans also include refreshed exhibits, a gift shop, and a dedicated library that will preserve and share the national collection of United States Submarine Veterans, Inc.

Keith also highlighted the museum’s role in community engagement, including its partnership with the Camden County Chamber of Commerce to host weekly orientation tours for newly arrived service members, helping connect them to the community beyond the base.

The museum has launched a capital campaign with a projected goal of approximately $1.5 million and encourages community involvement through its “Plank Owner” program. The project represents a meaningful investment in preserving naval history while strengthening ties between the military, the city, and the community.
